Insurance in Douglas, GA

We are an independent insurance agency at 116 Ashley St E in Douglas, the Coffee County seat, writing personal and business coverage across south Georgia and into Alabama since 1984, so the person who quotes your policy is the same person who answers the phone when you need to use it.

Same street, same people, since 1984

Tanner Insurance Agency has worked out of downtown Douglas, GA 31533, since 1984. The agency has changed hands twice, and both times the standard for the next owner was the same: they had to have a presence in this community and a heart for it. Owner Bruce Purvis was born at Coffee Regional Hospital a few blocks from the office, and he came back to Douglas to run the agency and raise his three children here with his wife, Amber.

That is also why you will see us at ball fields, school events and fundraisers around Coffee County, and why we put money into causes that help people here who are going through something hard. We are not a call center with a Douglas ZIP code attached to it. We are the office on Ashley Street, and our clients are our neighbors.

The towns we drive to

Douglas is home, and Coffee County is the bulk of our book. We write policies in Ambrose, Broxton and Nicholls right along with Douglas, and we cross into Atkinson County for Pearson and Willacoochee. Plenty of our clients are further out than that, across the rest of Georgia, and we are licensed in Alabama as well, so a move or a second property over the line does not mean starting over with a new agency.

This is the policy that answers for a customer hurt on your property or for damage you cause working on someone else's. It is also the policy behind the certificate a landlord or general contractor asks you for.

General liability

General Liability Insurance

Personal insurance for Douglas households

Most of what we write is the coverage on a family's house, vehicles and everything they have worked for. All of it is quoted through our personal insurance side, and most people end up with two or three policies with us because it is simpler and usually cheaper.

Auto Insurance

Pickup trucks, work trucks and daily drivers on US 441 and US 319, sharing the road with log trucks and farm equipment. We write Georgia's required liability limits and go past them, and we can quote uninsured motorist, comprehensive and roadside on the same trip.

Homeowners Insurance

Houses in town, houses on acreage outside it, and everything from a 1950s brick home to new construction. Wind, hail and water from a summer storm are the claims we see most in Coffee County, and we go over how your policy handles them before you need it to.

Renters Insurance

If you rent an apartment or a house in Douglas, your landlord's policy covers the building and nothing inside it. A renters policy covers your belongings and your liability, and it is inexpensive enough that most people are surprised.

Mobile and Manufactured Home Insurance

Single-wides and doublewides on county roads all through this area, including older homes that a lot of companies will not look at. This coverage is written on its own form, not a standard homeowners policy, and we know which carriers actually want it.

 Boats, motorcycles, ATVs and RVs

A bass boat, a side-by-side on the farm, a motorcycle or a camper you take out a few weekends a year. These do not ride along on your auto or homeowners policy the way people assume, so we quote them separately.

This is the policy that answers for a customer hurt on your property or for damage you cause working on someone else's. It is also the policy behind the certificate a landlord or general contractor asks you for.

Business and farm coverage across Coffee County

The businesses we insure look like the businesses here: storefronts and offices on Ashley Street, contractors with a crew and a couple of trucks, trucking outfits, and row crop and timber operations working the ground around Douglas. Our business insurance side handles all of it out of the same office.

Farm and Agribusiness Insurance

Cotton, peanuts, poultry houses, cattle and pine. We cover the dwelling, the barns and equipment sheds, the tractors and implements, the livestock and the liability that comes with people and equipment on your land.

Commercial Auto and Trucking Insurance

Log trucks, dump trucks, delivery vans and service pickups titled to a business. We handle filings and certificates for drivers running US 441 and US 319, and a driver can walk into the Ashley Street office with a certificate request.

General Liability Insurance

The policy behind the certificate a general contractor, a landlord or the city asks you for before you can start work. It answers for a customer hurt at your shop or damage you cause on someone else's property.

Why call a local agent instead of filling out a form

An independent agency is not tied to one company's product shelf. We take your information once and take it to several carriers, and when a rate jumps at renewal or a company changes what it wants to write, we go looking for a better fit instead of handing you a number and telling you that is what it costs now.

The other half of it is simpler. You are talking to somebody who knows the roads, knows the weather that comes through here, and will still be at this desk when you have a claim. There is no queue, no transfer to another state, and no explaining where Coffee County is.

Questions people ask before they come by

  • Where is your insurance office in Douglas, GA

Tanner Insurance Agency is at 116 Ashley St E in downtown Douglas, GA 31533. Mail goes to PO Box 187, Douglas, GA 31534. You can reach the office at (912) 384-0114 or (912) 422-3272, or email info@tanner-ins.com.

  • What are your hours?

The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and closed from 12:00 to 1:00 pm each day for lunch. We are closed Saturday and Sunday. If you call outside those hours, leave a message and we will call you back the next business day.

  • Can I get a home and auto quote the same day?

Usually, yes. If you call or come in during office hours with your current policy or your renewal notice, we can often quote both and compare carriers while you are there. Bring vehicle information, driver's license numbers and the details on the house, and it goes faster.

  • Do you write insurance in Broxton, Nicholls and Pearson too?

Yes. We write throughout Coffee County, including Ambrose, Broxton and Nicholls, and in Pearson and Willacoochee in Atkinson County. We also write across the rest of Georgia and in Alabama.

  • What does an independent insurance agent in Douglas do differently?

We represent several insurance companies rather than one, so we can compare what each will offer on your house, your vehicles or your business and place the policy where it fits best. If that changes later, we can move the policy without you having to start over somewhere else.

  • Which Douglas are you in?

Douglas, Georgia, the Coffee County seat in south Georgia, ZIP 31533. We are not in Douglasville or Douglas County near Atlanta.
